This is a page especially for Jack, Lillie, Neo, Emily and Olivia!
Grandma and Grandpa now live in France and here is a picture of our new house.
8th February 2009
Many of Mike’s sheep have had lambs this week. 23 of his ewes have had twins, so how many lambs does that make? Some of the ewes have only had one lamb. There are still some more lambs to be born. Sadly, some of the lambs have died. We have been helping Mike by going out into the field where the sheep graze and checking they are OK. Sometimes we have to pick up lambs that are too weak or just need some help to get back to the barn. Some of the lambs are having to be fed milk from a bottle rather than from their mother.
There are four being bottle fed at the moment and one of them is very poorly and weak and it may not live.
Here she is on Grandma’s lap being fed. She is number 13 and is one of a pair of twins but her mother does not seem to want to feed her. We are doing our best to help her live. We are hoping that one of the females may come to our home to be a friend for Benjy.
So that Mike can tell which lamb belongs to which ewe, he paints numbers on both the mother and the lamb. It looks as if they are all in a football team with numbers on their backs!
We had some snow yesterday and it was funny seeing the sheep covered with snow! Their woolly coats work very well and inside them they are very snug!
6th January 2009
It is a New Year and soon it will be the New Year in the Chinese calendar when it become the year of the OX.Ox are very like the cows that you saw in a field near where we live when you were here at Christmas.
We saw a lot of animals when you were here including Benjy who says hello to you! The other day he managed to escape from the orchard where he lives by squeezing under the wire fence. We think that he preferred the look of the grass outside the orchard!
When we went to the park in Limoges we saw all sorts of animals and you were able to stroke some of them.
Just as well this goat did not decide to push Neo off the fence!
We have had snow here today and the birds have been very busy feeding on the fat balls and nuts outside our kitchen window. Today we also had a Little Owl that got trapped in one of our barns and we had to open the doors wide so he could fly out but we took some pictures of him before he flew away.
It was lovely to see you all and we hope you had a good Christmas here.
It was good that Santa Claus knew where to find you so that you got all your presents.
We all had Christmas dinner sitting at the big table with Mummy,Daddy, Uncle George, Grandma & Grandpa and of course, Lillie & Neo.
We needed some fresh air & exercise so we all wrapped up warmly and went for a walk.
We look forward to seeing you again soon.
August 2008
We enjoyed you coming to visit us and hope you did too. Hurry back soon.
We got up to all sorts of things while you were here and held a party.
We invited everyone from our village
as well as the builders who had been working on our house plus friends and family including Great Uncle Paul
and three of his children, Arran, Josh & Laura
We went to see our farmer friend, Mike and swam in his pool
and Lillie had a ride on Merlin, one of Mike's horses
and met Benjy, the sheep who is now living at Grandma & Grandpa's
We have been helping our friend Mike
with his sheep and watched as they were sheared. It was great fun.
He doesn't have any cows though!
But he does have two dogs
they are called Tommy and Taffy.
Taffy is a young sheep dog and is learning to herd the sheep.
Here he is getting to 'nose' the sheep!
Audrey and Grahame are friends of ours and by their house is an adorable donkey called Mandolin, she has really lovely long ears and likes to eat vegetables.
On Saturday we had very fast cars driving past our house and they went zoom, zoom, zoom, pop, pop, pop very loudly! It was a car rally which takes place here every year in June.
Fergal, one of the builders, is digging the ground so that we can put up our swimming pool! We hope the weather will be lovely when you are here so you can show us how well you can both swim. No cart wheeling in the swimming pool though!
14th July 2008 Bastille Day
In France on the 14th July they have a holiday called 'Bastille Day' where they celebrate the storming of the Bastille to release the prisoners and overthrow the Monarchy. This means that they no longer had a King or Queen ruling over them but a President.
On this day we went with Uncle George and some friends on a lovely steam train trip from Limoges Benedictins station to Eymoutiers through lovely rural scenery.
At Limoges Benedictins station as well as the steam train we saw some very new trains as you can see in this picture.
We went through lots of dark and smokey tunnels and over some quite high viaducts looking down we could see the cows in the fields and people in their gardens or in the street waving to us.
Along the way there and on the way back we had to stop at a station to take on more water as the engine needs a lot to help keep it going.
When we got to Eymoutiers we had a lovely lunch and then visited a Brocante which is like a street market.
We also saw some very lovely salsa dancers
and musicians on stilts dancing through the streets!
Then it was time to go home so we all got back on the steam train and had a lovely leisurely ride back to Limoges Benedictins station. An accordian player was on the train too and he played a lot of songs.
Some of our friends who came with us were so tired on the way back they fell asleep on the train.
This is Limoges Benedictins station. It was built in the 1930's and is beautifully decorated inside and as you can see it looks very grand from the outside too! We had a lovely day out.
